Fashion is so much more than just picking out clothing.
Fashion is the sacred process of adorning ourselves in a chosen power.
My current project, CUT UPS, is a representation of the myriad of influences in my life, from literature and punk music to catholic mysticism and western iconography .
Each piece is a poem constructed through vintage/antique textiles, animal-based ornamentation, tokens and talismans. Each piece is a many-angled access point into the strange brain layers and memories that define our exterior representation.
Getting dressed in these pieces is an ongoing act of resistance, rebellion, self-discovery and self-love. An upcoming photography project will further extrapolate the idea of evolving into a new, third form, by combining the right-now with something that has existed, however dormant, for quite some time.
After all, as William Burroughs said, "when you cut open the present, the future leaks out."
