BUSTLEWORSHIP aims to open up a dialogue about intentional, sustainable adornment in a world run rampant with synthetic, petroleum-based fibers and fast-fashion throwaways. By reusing and repurposing vintage fur, I seek to showcase and preserve natural-fiber garments produced by ancient, handcrafted, and artisan methods. All furs are from before 1978. After they are chosen or found, the furs are fully deconstructed to inspect and restore interior pelts and batting. Repairs are done both by hand and by using an antique traditional furrier sewing machine. After being cut from from full coats into functioning, smaller stoles or collars, the objects are relined using either vintage or speciality fabric. Chains, beads, fringe, and trinkets are added to accent the unique piece and explore ideas of armor and adornment.
